5 Days PEAK CIRCUMNAVIGATION via Sirimon
"An acclimatization booster"
(This itinerary is adjustable to 6 or 7 days)

Highly recommended to both experienced and inexperienced high altitude trekkers as it offers maximum chances of acclimatization, virtually guaranteeing successful ascent to the summit.


From Shiptons, you skirt the high peaks to the east in the counter clockwise direction, bypassing Kami and Two-tarn huts as you marvel at the splendid view of the rocky towers, tarns and suspended glaciers of the west face of Batian peak to attempt the summit from Mackinders camp in the Teleki valley and eventually returning back on the Sirimon route once again. Camping on this itinerary is unnecessary unless preferred.

Detailed itinerary

Day1: Depart Nairobi to Mountain Rock lodge (base lodge) advance preparations for the trip and participate in a fitness nature hike. After lunch, you begin an escorted 3-4 hours forest nature walk up to the MauMau cave (2050m)

Dinner and Overnight -Mountain Rock lodge (1950m)

Day 1: Depart at 1000hrs to be transferred to Sirimon Park gate.hike through montane forest, bamboo and rosewood up to the OldMoses Hut, gaining an elevation range of 700m in 3-4 hours.
Dinner and Overnight-OldMoses Hut (3300m)

Day 2: Leaving early, traverse the expansive moorlands carpeted with tussock grasses and dotted with the unique Giant lobelia and Senecio plants, crossing streams and valleys. largely through the Mackinder Valley, with good views of the main peaks and a brief stopover for picnic lunch. Total walking time is approx. 7 hours gaining 900m in altitude to arrive at the Shiptons Hut.
Dinner and Overnight-Shiptons Hut (4200m)

Day 3: Depart at 0800hrs and ascend up to the Hausberg col (4700m) on the Summit Circuit Path then descend steeply to Hausberg valley and Oblong tarns before making a further steep ascent, crossing huge boulders on the way to Mackinders camp (4,300m) in the Teleki Valley. Hiking time about 6 hours.
Dinner and overnight-Mackinder's Camp (4300m)

Day 4: Leave the camp at 0300hrs and hike up the steep scree slopes and across rocks up to Point Lenana (4985m), the hikers‚ summit, gaining 685m in altitude in 3-4 hours. Later descend back to Shipton‚s camp (4200m) for breakfast then relax for the rest of the day.

Day 5: Early breakfast then descend up to the Sirimon Roadhead (3000m) to connect with our vehicle for transfer back to Mountain Rock Lodge for shower, lunch and optional overnight stop. Those returning to Nairobi this afternoon arrive there by 1700hrs.
